Osazuwa can win African championship gold – Ogba

Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN president, Chief Solomon Ogba has expressed delight with the rapid improvement of up and coming heptathlete, Ohunoma Osazuwa.

Osazuwa who made her debut for Nigeria at last year’s All Africa Games chalked up 6,049 points last week at the Pan American combined events championships in Ottawa, Canada to improve on the previous 5,992 she did in April to consign Patience Itanyi’s 5,730 12 year-old national record to history.

Ogba stated that Osazuwa, having acquired the 6k status, was capable of competing with the best in the world. He added that Osazuwa can win the gold at the African Championships later this month in Benin Republic.

“She has kept on improving and I have confidence that she will do well at the Africa Championships.

I am really happy that she has improved on the points she amassed last April when she became the new national record holder. She is capable of making the ‘A’ of the London Olympic,” said Ogba.

However Osazuwa must have to double her efforts, if she is to dethrone Margaret Simpson who is the African record holder with 6, 423 points. The petite Ghanaian this season has done 6,245 points, compared to the best performance of 6,906 achieved by British Jessica Ennis.
