I once wore a skin cut – Lara George

When it comes to inspirational/gosple artistes, she’s one of the artistes that cannot be ignored. Lara George has paid her dues as a gosple singer, having made many hit albums with lots of awards to her credit including: Voice of The Year, 2008, at the Nigerian Music Awards, as well as Song of The Year, 2009, Nigerian Gosple Music Wards amongst others.
She’s our celebrity guests on today’s Hair & Style.

How do you feel about your natural hair?
The truth is that I love my natural hair. It’s very soft, light and at the same time it’s full as well as long too. But in all, it’s still an African hair and I love leaving my natural hair long.

Lara George

It’s just that I recently took a decision to let my natural hair rest for a while and I’ve been wearing more of extensions.
So who did you take after in terms of hair?
I think I took after my mum. In fact, when I gave birth to my son, his hair was straight for the first six months and it made him look like a Chinese. And whenever we were on the streets, people would turn and look at me as if I stole him
How do you  take care of your natural hair?
Whenever I take off my extensions, I relax, condition it and use lots of hair treatment so that it can be fuller. Then, I weave it to prevent breakage. And any time I visit a new climate area, I apply much comditioner so it wont break. I also visit salon every one and half months.
Which is your preference when it comes to hair extensions?
I like the Brazillian hair because it holds curls and makes me look natural. It’s also easy to manage. And basically for any lady who’s into such prefession as mine, it’s good to always keep up the appearance and invest in good hair that wont stress you at any time one attends an occasion.
Can you tint your natural hair into colours like red, yellow?
I’ve actually considered it but I don’t think I can because it wont look nice on me. I know what soothes me best. So, I’ll rather settle for hair with colour 33 or gold highlights than go to the extreme.
What about cutting your hair?
I had cut my hair twice before. The first time I did it was in the university. At that time, I got tired of my hair and patronising salons because they were located far from where I stayed. So one day, I just got tired of it, went to the barber’s shop and had it cut. The second time was six years ago when I was carrying my son’s pregnancy. I found out that no matter how cold it was, I usually felt hot. So I pleaded with my husband to allow me cut it but he would not allow me. One day, on my way back from an occasion, I felt uncomfortable with it. So I just stopped by a barber’s shop and had it cut off.
So how did your husband react to that?
I had to beg him and he understood when he saw how horrible I felt with the hair. So after I cut it then, I was very happy.
What about shaving all of your hair?
Because I have a round face, if I shave my hair, it’ll fit me well. Actually, the last time I cut it, I had it all shaved off.
So how did shaving your hair made you feel?
For me, shaving my hair was the craziest thing I could do to my hair. But I wasn’t ashamed to wear it because it suited me. And because I’d just put to bed my boy, I looked fatter and shorter. In fact, as at that time, I wasn’t as popular as I am today. So I enjoyed the anonymity. I’ll love to do it again if I’m permitted.

Home haircare tips

For Dandruff
•Massage the Scalp with pure coconut oil. This will also help growth of hair
•Apply coconut oil which has been boiled with small onions for about 20 minutes. Wash it off with a mixture of green gram powder and water drained from cooked (boiled) rice.
•Apply a mixture of almond oil and gooseberry juice with finger tips on the scalp.
•Apply the warm mixture of olive oil, lemon juice and coconut oil. Do a steam -towel- wrap for 15 minutes and wash the hair with a mild shampoo.
•Apply a paste of fenugreek and mustard to the scalp.
•Mix Shikakai powder with the water drained from the cooked rice and wash the hair with it.
•Crush the leaves of five petal hibiscus flower and take the juice. Wash the hair with this juice.
•Heat oil with a little camphor. Apply the oil in the scalp and massage for 10 minutes. After 30 minutes wash the hair with a herbal shampoo. Do the steam -towel- wrap for 15 minutes.

For Healthy and Shiny hair
•It is better to apply castor oil for a healthy growth of hair
•Wash hair with tea once in a week.•Apply besan in the hair and wash it with water drained from the cooked rice.
•Soak a handful of gooseberries in a cup of milk for two hours. Make a paste and apply on the hair.
•Apply the mixture of an egg white, 2 spoons of castor oil, 1 spoon glycerin, in the scalp and hair. Wash it after some time.
•Massage hair with warm coconut oil an hour before washing. Let it soak. Cover your head with a hot towel and wash your hair after an hour or so.
•Boil a few hibiscus flowers in coconut oil. Filter and use this hair oil to control hair loss and thinning.
•Do a ‘steam-towel-wrap’ once in a while, if your cuticles are damaged, as this steaming opens out the pores and absorbs the oil.•Soak 1 teaspoon fenugreek in curd and keep it for a night. Apply it in the next morning.
•Boil coconut oil with the juices of curry leaves, basil, hibiscus flower and gooseberry. Apply on hair, keep it for sometime and rinse.
•Take a cup each coconut and mustard oil. Soak half a cup of curry leaves in the oil mixture and keep it for a night. Next morning, heat on a slow fire till the curry leaves turn crisp.
Remove from heat and add two to three camphor balls. Allow oil to cool and then strain. Apply oil to hair roots using cotton wool along the parting and massage in circular movements. Leave the oil overnight and shampoo the next morning. Repeat twice a week.
•Add a lemon peel to a ‘shikakai’ and ‘amla’ mixture while washing your hair.

Messi v Ronaldo: Who delivered the knockout blow this time?

Goal.com weighs up the Liga Clasico duel between the two superstars following Saturday's title-deciding encounter. Who came out on top at Camp Nou?

Messi-Ronaldo Cartoon
Goal.com presents a boxing-style head-to-head battle between two of the Clasico's key players: Lionel Messi of Barcelona and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo.

Saturday evening's showdown at Camp Nou in La Liga, which ended 2-1 to Los Blancos and allowed Jose Mourinho's side to move seven points clear of the Catalans at the top of the Primera Division table, saw Messi and Ronaldo face off for the sixth time this season. Who came out on top in the personal duel?

Here's a reminder of how the two players are scored:
  • If there is little to separate the two players in a round they will be scored 10-10. A narrow win in a round, where there are no goals in the match involving the pair, will produce a 10-9. If Messi scores a goal in a round, and Ronaldo doesn’t, the Argentine will win that round 10-8. If Messi scores twice, and Ronaldo doesn’t, he will win 10-7.
  • The same system is used for assists and for winning a penalty. So if in a round, Ronaldo creates a goal and wins a penalty (without taking the penalty), while Messi does nothing of note, then Ronaldo wins that round 10-7.
  • A yellow card results in a one-point deduction. A dive in the penalty area or just outside that is penalised by the referee will lose a player a point too.
  • At least one of the two players will always be awarded a 10 for a round unless both get booked in the same round, which will result in a 9-9. Should one of the two players be sent off, then it will result in a Knockout victory for the other player providing he is not also red carded later in the match.
Please recognise that these values are different to Goal.com's Player Ratings, and designed to reflect the one-on-one, combat-style judging of a boxing bout.
Let's go!

Guardiola concedes La Liga title to Real Madrid after Clasico defeat

Pep Guardiola - Barcelona
Pep Guardiola - Barcelona Coach

Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola has conceded the Primera Division title to Real Madrid in the wake of the Catalan side’s damaging 2-1 defeat in the Clasico at Camp Nou on Saturday evening.
Goals from Sami Khedira and Cristiano Ronaldo gave Jose Mourinho’s men a commanding seven-point lead at the top of the table, and Guardiola has been quick to offer praise to Jose Mourinho's side, while also commending the efforts of his own squad.
Speaking to the media after the match, he said: "First of all, congratulations to Madrid, for the win and the league title they have confirmed today. I wouldn't change my players for anything. These players have been in this situation and have shown they can get up."
Guardiola also felt that his side dealt well with the attacking prowess of Madrid, but conceded that they didn't do enough to win the game.
He added: “We controlled Madrid's counterattacks pretty well, they didn't create a lot of chances, but at the end they did a bit more.”
He also stressed that Barcelona will now turn to the Champions League, and the match with Chelsea on Tuesday, concluding: "I feel bad for the fans. But the players have been giving everything, for four years already now, so I hope they understand. Now the players should relax a bit, and then focus on Chelsea. We should see if we can get in the right spirit.”

Barcelona 1-2 Real Madrid: Ronaldo the match-winner as Mourinho's side take significant step towards La Liga title

Ronaldo fires Madrid to brink of La Liga glory
Ronaldo fires Madrid to brink of La Liga glory

The Portuguese attacker's 73rd-minute goal was the difference between Spain's fiercest rivals on Saturday evening as Los Blancos ran out 2-1 winners in Barcelona. The race for the title is well and truly in the hands of the capital outfit, after an inspired performance to clinch victory in the Clasico and open up a seven-point lead.

Barcelona's hopes of a fourth sucessive Primera Division title were dealt a potentially fatal blow after a 2-1 defeat at Camp Nou against Real Madrid in the Clasico on Saturday.

A poor piece of handling from Victor Valdes allowed Sami Khedira to score the only goal of the first half just after a quarter of an hour. Jose Mourinho's men defended dilligently thereafter, but Alexis Sanchez restored parity by scoring a scrappy effort in the 70th minute within moments of coming on as a substitute.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo put Los Blancos' back in front three minutes later with a record-breaking 109th team goal in the league, and Madrid held on for a priceless victory, which opens up a seven-point lead over their great rivals at the top of the table.
With Sanchez benched after battling against an injury picked up against Chelsea midweek, youngster Cristian Tello was preferred to Pedro in attack. Xavi started his 32nd career Clasico game, breaking the all-time record, but there was no place in the home XI for Cesc Fabragas or Gerard Pique.
The major surprise in Mourinho’s team selection was the inclusion of Fabio Coentrao ahead of Marcelo at left-back, despite the former’s suspect showing in the Champions League loss to Bayern Munich.
Madrid made a positive start to the match amidst the raucous Camp Nou atmosphere, and fashioned the first opportunity after only five minutes, with a powerful header from Ronaldo forcing Valdes to tip over.
Barca were quickly back down the pitch, and Dani Alves appeared to be through after pouncing on a sloppy Pepe pass, but Iker Casillas was quick off his line to block the Brazilian at his feet.
With 13 minutes gone, Tello showed lightning-quick feet to evade a pair of challenges out wide, before letting fly with an effort that Casillas did well to save, as the home side grew into the game. But their endeavour was halted, as three minutes later, Madrid were ahead.
The Catalans had their struggles defending set pieces against Chelsea, and so it proved again. Pepe rose highest to get his head to a corner, which was spilled by Valdes, allowing Khedira just enough time to evade the attentions of Carles Puyol and poke the rebound home.
However, Barca should have been level after 26 minutes. An exceptional through pass from Lionel Messi released Xavi on goal, but the midfielder dragged his finish wide with only Casillas to beat.
Both sides continued to provide an entertaining spectacle, despite heavy rainfall in the latter stages of the half. A moment of magic on the right from Ozil nearly carved Barca apart, but Javier Mascherano put in a superb challenge to halt the German from point blank range just before the break.
Barca continued their quest for an equaliser after the restart, but were guilty of another glaring miss. A defence-splitting pass from Thiago Alcantara put Tello clean through, but his first-time finish was woeful, and sent into orbit.
Pep Guardiola’s men continued to keep Madrid penned back in their own half, but for the second time in a week, a determined rearguard effort made chances hard to come by. With 68 minutes gone, Xavi flashed a long range effort just wide with his last contribution of the game, as he was taken off for Sanchez.
The substitution proved to be a masterstroke, as within two minutes, Sanchez put the hosts back on terms. Tello’s shot was stopped initially by Casillas, cueing a penalty-box scramble that ended when the Chilean squeezed the ball home near the goal-line after another save by Casillas.
Madrid’s response was instant. A breathtaking pass from Ozil caught the Barca defence out and released Ronaldo, who accelerated away from the onrushing Valdes and fired home from a tricky angle.
Mourinho’s game plan was simple thereafter, and the visitors were able to hold on to their advantage, defending in numbers and holding onto possession with purpose as they frustrated Barca, and claimed a devastating three points in the title race.
Both sides will look to regain their focus, with deficits to overcome in their Champions League semi-final second-leg matchups midweek. Barca welcome Chelsea on Tuesday, while Madrid entertain Bayern the following day.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea: Much-changed Blues hold on for point ahead of vital second leg against Barcelona

The Gunners could not break down Roberto Di Matteo's side in a match which failed to really spark at the Emirates Stadium, with both sides lacking quality when attacking.

Arsenal Vs. Chelsea
A much-changed Chelsea team held out to secure a 0-0 draw in a largely lacklustre affair against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
Chelsea's 1-0 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League had evidently taken its toll on the starting XI involved in that match as Roberto Di Matteo made eight changes to his team.
The Blues were still able to hold their own, however, and frustrated the Gunners for the most part despite lacking a touch of class in attack that may have enabled them to take more than one point from the game.
Chelsea will have their sights focused on the second leg of their European semi-final and the upcoming FA Cup final but the stalemate does give Tottenham, who have a game in hand, the chance to pull four points clear of Roberto Di Matteo's team in the race to finish in the top four.
Arsene Wenger looked to add some spark to his side following their disappointing 2-1 loss to Wigan by introducing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain into the side in place of Yossi Benayoun, who was ineligible to feature against his parent club. Aaron Ramsey replaced the injured Mikel Arteta while Laurent Koscielny and Kieran Gibbs returned to the back four.
The Chelsea changes included the introduction of young left-back Ryan Bertrand ahead of Ashley Cole, while Fernando Torres replaced Didier Drogba in attack, with the Ivorian left out of the squad entirely.
The Blues looked happy to sit back and absorb pressure in the early stages when Arsenal gained possession but looked sharp and threatening when they sprung out of their compact defensive shape to attack.
Torres nicked the ball away after some diligent defensive work in the Arsenal half on a couple of occasions but despite moving the ball well in midfield Chelsea could not take advantage in attack. Salomon Kalou half-heartedly appealed for a penalty after he had lost control of the ball when through on goal on the left-hand side, but it was correctly waved away.
The home side slowly grew into the game, though, and wasted a golden chance to take the lead after 14 minutes. Theo Walcott guided a superb free-kick towards the back post that dropped into the lap of Robin van Persie but the Dutchman could only stab his finish wide from point blank range.
From there, the first half petered out. Arsenal struggled to find fluency in midfield, with Ramsey guilty of coughing up possession on more than one occasion, while the Chelsea front three of Kalou, Torres and Daniel Sturridge could not conjure up anything in the final third that worked Wojciech Szczesny.
Petr Cech remained similarly untroubled until the Gunners carved out a flurry of opportunities as the half drew to a close. Koscielny was entirely unmarked when he headed a Van Persie free-kick against the crossbar before the Dutchman controlled Alex Song's excellent pass to force Cech into a good block inside the penalty area.
That brief respite in an otherwise tepid affair was not, unfortunately, a sign of things to come in the second half. The first 15 minutes comprised of a collection of incomplete crosses, mistimed through balls and, in defence of the two sides, reasonably solid defending.
Walcott was hauled off just after the hour mark after pulling up with a hamstring injury that was handled in a way that will not have pleased Stuart Pearce, England's interim manager, who was in attendance.
The forward attempted to play on after appearing to suffer a tweak to the muscle and only seemed to risk aggravating the problem before he again went down in pain and was substituted minutes later.
Gary Cahill appeared to lean on Van Persie when challenging for a high ball in the penalty area but referee Dean remained unmoved despite the striker's protests, while despite substitute Juan Mata's best efforts, he could not instigate much of an improvement in Chelsea's invention levels in the Arsenal half.
Van Persie began to find more space as play became more stretched in midfield but could not take advantage, wriggling away from a couple of Blues defenders and a stranded Cech in the box only to see his shot blocked by the keeper.
Koscielny had to be alert to slide in and prevent Sturridge from shooting from close range at the other end as the moment of decisive quality needed to give either side the edge did not come.

Manchester United weigh up €18m move for Valencia & Spain left-back Jordi Alba

The defender has attracted interest from Barcelona this season but is now being targeted by Sir Alex Ferguson to replace the ageing Patrice Evra.

Jordi Alba - Valencia

Manchester United are weighing up a €18 million swoop for Valencia left-back Jordi Alba, Goal.com UK has learned.

The Premier League champions are scouting a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra even though there is no suggestion that they could be ready to listen to offers for the Frenchman.

Alba has come to the attention of United since establishing himself in Valencia's first team and becoming a full Spain international last September.

Goal.com understands that Sir Alex Ferguson has instructed his scouts to take a closer look at Alba after initial reports on the 23-year-old earlier this year were said to be extremely encouraging.

Rivals Manchester City are also closely monitoring the defender and their scouts paid particular attention to him during the January window.

However, as revealed by Goal.com earlier this month, it is believed that City’s top left-back target to replace Aleksandar Kolarov is Lille teenager Lucas Digne, who could be available for €8.5m this summer.

Alba was released by Barcelona aged 16 but has flourished at Valencia, who are third in Spain’s Primera Liga.

He was called up to the Spain squad for last two Euro 2012 qualifiers against Scotland and Czech Republic last autumn, and started in the 1-0 friendly defeat to England at Wembley in November.

Valencia’s well-documented financial problems mean that the Spanish club could be ready to negotiate the sale of one of their prize assets. United sources believe a deal could be agreed for around the €18m mark.

Evra has been an ever-presence in United’s charge to the Premier League summit, starting all 33 of the team’s matches, as well as eight of their 11 European fixtures.

Nevertheless, his age – he turns 31 next month – and growing vulnerability have led United to consider long-term alternatives.
