Edo State House of Assembly lifts ban on suspended council boss

Edo State House of Assembly, yesterday, lifted the suspension placed on the chairman of Uhumnwonde Local Government Area of the state, Mr Roland Alari.

The decision was sequel to the report of the Adhoc Committee headed by the lawmaker representing Egor constituency in the House, Mr. Paul Ohonbanmu, which was set up by the House to investigate what led to fight between some councillors and the Special Adviser to the chairman on Security Matters, Mr Ajayi.

Alari, was suspended by the House last week after a fight between some of his aides and some councillors, following which the House set up a committee to investigate the matter.

However, Ohonbanmu, who read the report of the committee, said that the council boss was not at the scene of the incident during the fracas, adding that it would be unfair to punish him for what he was not part of.

However, the committee recommended that the chairman’s Adviser on Security, who fought the councillors be sacked immediately and warned that he must not be allowed to work at the council in any capacity.

Consequently, the House lifted the suspension on Mr Alari and directed that he should resume immediately. The House further directed the Clerk of the House to forward the resolution to the state governor.
