The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on Sunday in Abuja said the Shiroro Power Station would be shut down for three days to rectify some faults in the station.

In a statement issued by TCN’s General Manager (Public Relations), Mrs Seun Olagunju, it said the “unavoidable shutdown’’ would lead to a drop in power supply to parts of the country.

“There will be a drop in the quantity of power available for TCN to transmit to the Distribution Companies.

“This is because Shiroro Power Plc has announced that its power station will be shut down for three days, from Monday, Jan. 27 to Wednesday, Jan. 29th,” the statement said.

It added that the shutdown was to enable the station’s engineers rectify ground fault on the station’s Carbon Dioxide Control Panel.

The statement said the panel provides vital auxiliary services necessary for the running of the power plant.

It explained that during the period of the shutdown, grid generation would reduce by 300MW, leading to the nationwide load-shedding.

TCN said the impact of the load-shedding would be higher in the Northern axis of the country, especially Kano.

“This is due to voltage instability issues which were previously affecting power supply in that axis,’’ the company said in the statement.

It said the TCN apologised to electricity consumers for the inconvenience the planned load-shedding would cause during the period.

“TCN will continue to work with the power generating stations and distribution companies nationwide to improve and stabilise the power supply situation in the country,’’ the statement said. (NAN)
