Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau on Friday called on the people of the state to ensure a peaceful conduct of the February 25 local government polls.

The governor made the call while inaugurating the campaign rally of Mr Caleb Mutfwang, the Peoples Democratic Party chairmanship candidate for the election in Mangu Local Government Area.

Jang, who spoke through the Secretary to State Government, Prof. Shadrach Best, said that the peaceful conduct of the local government polls would prepare the ground for further growth and development in the state.

“It is my belief that if we can peacefully conduct the local government elections, as we had during the party primaries at councils and ward levels, then we are on the path of progress.

“We should vehemently resist any temptation that will push us into taking up arms against one another during the polls.

“Rather, we should display the spirit of maturity and sportsmanship,” he said.

The governor also called on the people of Mangu to support PDP in the forthcoming election to ensure that the council clinched all the elective positions.

“I trust the people of Mangu when it comes to support for the PDP and I have no doubt that you will do us proud all through,” he said.

Also speaking, Mutfwang, who was presented with the party flag at the rally, urged the people of the area to give him their votes.

“All I want from Mangu people is their votes that will ensure my victory at the polls,” he said.

Mufwang promised to use his God-given talents for the development of the council if he was elected.
