This requirement is against the backdrop of only about 25,000 units of blood being recorded annually as a result of limited number of voluntary blood donors.

Experts say the average adult person suffers no adverse effect from donating a pint of blood which may save a life. Every donor is tested and certified fit before donation.

Vice Chairman of Anambra State chapter of NRCS, Prof. Peter Katchy, who disclosed this to newsmen, yesterday, in Onitsha, Anambra State, therefore, urged Nigerians to form the habit of donating blood twice a year in order to meet the blood requirement in the country.
