APC Berates Governor Mimiko Over Imposition of Fees On Primary School Pupils

The APC Director of Media and Publicity, Steve Otaloro, called for the immediate cancellation of the proposed levy noting that the move goes against the government mandate of establishing schools.

‎Mr. Otaloro also condemned the government policy of contracting out the security of the schools to private security companies, arguing that the personnel of these companies know nothing about education and the care of children.

"More importantly, most of these security guards seldom report for work as their employers hardly pay their wages on time. Most of them are owed over 8 months of salary,” he noted.‎‎

The APC spokesman also expressed disgust at the shortage of teachers in both secondary and primary schools in Ondo State. He noted that the shortage was caused in large part by the derelict status of education in the State. He added that in spite of the redeployment of the National Certificate of Education (NCE) holders to schools, there still remains a wide gap to be filled.‎

‎He stressed that the whole educational system of the State might collapse if the State government refused to take proactive steps.

"We view with sadness that if urgent remedial steps are not taken by Governor Mimiko on this unfortunate development, the whole educational system of the State, known for its leadership position in the Country’s educational sector, could collapse beyond repair.”
