UNIBEN SUG Elections 2016: Lauretta Obakpolo Wins Presidential Election

The Student Union Government (SUG) 2016 elections was conducted on yesterday in various faculties in the University of Benin. The election was free and fair. Pharmacy presidential aspirant Lauretta Obakpolo won the presidential seat with a land slide victory.

Lauretta who entered the race as an underdog defeated five male contestants. Those defeated included Nelson Erharuyi of the Faculty of Engineering, Arigbe Victor and Iyekpolor Clifford both of Faculty of Education, Lesley Oghama of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Oghogho Godstime of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences.

Assistant Secretary General: Airhuoyuwa O. Elliot (300 Level, Fine Art)

Director of Finance: Odu Peremifita Glory (300 Level, Accounting)

Director of Publicity: Ikotu Gideon Kelechi (300 Level, International Studies)

Director of Welfare
: Chukwu Osita Eugene (300 Level, History & International Studies)

Director of Sports: Iroegbu Micheal Agodichima (300 Level, Human Kinetics & Sports Science)

Director of Socials: Enokeran Nosakhare Precious (300 Level, Mass Communication)

In the year 2010, Chineloma Eleodimuo won the Student Union Government presidential election to become the first female UNIBEN SUG president. President Elect Lawretta Obakpolo is now the second female president in the history of University of Benin. Congratulations to her and other winners.

By virtue of this, both the President and Vice President are both females.

The handing-over ceremony will be held on Monday April 25, 2016.
